Psychic Readings by Kathleen

I have been uniquely blessed in my ongoing process of spiritual unfoldment which began when I was a child.  I became aware of my spiritual gifts objectively at about 12 years of age.  Up until then I just assumed everyone thought the way I did.  Once aware of it however I was relentless in my determination to understand it and at 15 years old I gave a presentation on telepathy to my Grade 10 Physics class that was enthusiastically received. In fact an informal vote was taken by the students to elect my presentation the best Physics class ever.  Not that it was a terrifically high bar to leap.

At 17 I was racing home from school (now in Grade 12) every day to learn and practice yoga with Karena on PBS.  No one was doing yoga in those days (1972) that I knew of anyway and since I was already suffering from a somewhat outcast position to my peers, I certainly wasn’t bragging about my perfect downward dog. But then I had already been warned by my mother to keep much of who I was on the quiet anyway.  She said if people knew you could read their minds they might do worse than shun you.  So I researched, did my yoga and vented to my mother who was unrelenting in her support of my individuality.  She abhorred conformity and generally liked very few people so the fact that I was undeniably showing signs of becoming the most eccentric girl in town really tickled her. And she would have loads of fun playing psychic games with me.  She would urge me to “guess” at someone’s name, where they were from or some small detail about them and then we would ask and when it was revealed that I was right, it would make her day.  She would crow with excitement and joy.  So not only was my development supported, it was enormously celebrated on a daily basis.  It never occurred to me that I might be just crazy.  Or that she was for that matter.

As I matured I just naturally gravitated to people who were also interested in spiritual matters.  I had a stream of spiritual teachers that gave me just the right guidance at the most auspicious time.  I sought academic training throughout North America that encouraged in depth psycho/spiritual pursuit.  I studied Carl Jung extensively until I was lecturing on Jung for the Jung Society of Greater Victoria in the early ’90’s.  I did a Master’s degree in Religion and Culture finding classes and teachers that shared a “somewhat” like mind.  I’ve had a host of wonderful role models as my therapists and counselors.

In my practice I am honoured and yet concerned for the people who have not been as fortunate as I.  I have met many people over the years who were on the verge of suicide as a result of feeling isolated and overwhelmed with spiritual experiences.  I have had clients who were intent on exploring their inner life whose families perceived them as crazy and wanted to put them on psychiatric medications to stem the flow of spiritual downloading.  Most of these people have not had the benefit of a conceptual framework to understand what they are experiencing.  There are times when regressive behaviour and severe disorientation are a part of spiritual growth and it requires patience not medication.

f you are going through an overwhelming spiritual unfoldment don’t despair. You aren’t alone and you’re not crazy.

Quote:

When higher energies enter the body, the chronic body tensions begin to loosen their hold.  In the process of this liberation from the samskaras, the body will go through physiological and/or psychological experiences.  This may be dramatic at times, subtle or imperceptible at other times.  It is not uncommon for a meditator to be sitting quietly and suddenly be wriggling all over, or having uncontrollable muscular spasms in some part of the body.  Moods ared also symptomatic of release of the samskaras.  These may include irritability, sadness, joy, giggling, fearfulness, and anxiety.  Moods also seem to be harder to control, which can be humiliating or frightening for someone used to being in control.”

Summer Greetings!

Summer Greetings

Psychic Readings by Kathleen

I have been pondering soul, spirit and energy lately having been triggered by a client I have been working closely with for a number of years.  She has been recently diagnosed with lung cancer.  She came to see me to find out how things were going to go.  She is keenly aware that she has an arduous path ahead and plans to “fight this thing” in her words.  Determined, practical, and a gifted administrator, she is putting a series of healing plans into place.  Of course irrepressibly curious, she wondered if she was going to successfully kick this pest out the door or would it get the best of her.  Death is a difficult transition to predict because spirit, being our primary advisor, really doesn’t have the same judgements or fears about death. Soul and spirit has little care whether we stay embodied for twenty years or one hundred, nor does it give a whit if we’re rich, homeless or content.

I think its an enlightening exercise for all of us to fantasize about hearing a potentially fatal diagnosis.  There is nothing quite like it to catapult us into a frenzy of prioritizing.  Suddenly everything that meant nothing now means everything, and things that mean everything are appallingly irrelevant.  Too often new age books direct us to think only positively, to see our lives as unfolding exactly as we would egotistically desire.  But it’s far more helpful actually to look at your embodied life as imminently coming to a close.  Because in reality for all you know it is.

We may even be inspired to give deeper and more profound consideration to those parts of ourselves that are not perceivable to our five senses such as our Soul and Spirit.  To approach Soul, Renaissance theologians would have an initiate study the vastness of the night sky as a metaphor for the vastness within.  The soul is the source of the most subtle energies of your being.  Yet this subtle energy give form to everything else about you, from your cells to your sense of self.  If Spirit, as it is often defined is the all-pervasive, intelligent energy of creation, soul is its manifestation at the personal level.  Soul and Spirit are the unfathomable, vital mysteries of our existence.  We can, however, experience them directly, whether through the energies of love, contemplation, healing, or mystical experience.

I think of soul as the spark of Spirit that infuses the body with life and the brain with consciousness.  When the soul leaves, the brain dims, the body dies.  To work with a person’s energy is to touch a soul as well as a body.  Ironically, the deeper you enter into the life of your personal soul, the more fully you identify with your roots in the life of a universal, unifying intelligent Spirit. And the better your body will fare.

When all your energies are brought into harmony, your body flourishes.  And when your body flourishes, your soul has a soil in which it can blossom in the world.  That’s why I often ask my clients how they are feeling physically and if they are listening to the needs of body.  Too many people ignore the physical signals that are telling them to get more rest, eat better, have a good belly laugh, cry a river of tears and take a walk.  Adults in our culture consider it ridiculous pampering to treat their bodies as they would a baby.  That’s “babying yourself!”   But neither our soul, spirit or body exists as as separate aspects.  If your soul is undernourished, it just might conclude staying here on earth is a waste of time in which case it stops sending nourishing energy to the body to prevail.  If you spend all your time contemplating spirit and not playing with your body, spiritual nourishment is not received into the body also leaving it undernourished and wasting away.

Throughout July, when we in the northern climes finally have warmth, long  days of sunlight and local produced food supply, remember to find joy in physical expression and pleasure.  Eat fresh, run around outside, note your dreams in the morning and pray for others in strife. Keep the energies flowing freely through all the aspects of yourself and have a luscious summer.

“My health returned while I was in Fiji.  My family and I lived out in the wilds, far from the nearest town.  We swam in the ocean every day.  We ate breadfruit from the ground and fish from the sea.  Nothing was processed.  Nothing was canned.  Everything was fresh and organic.  There were no fumes from the cars and no chemicals in our clothing.  Life was lived at a slow pace.  It was a world where you could just BE.  There was no competition and little stress.  There was no radio, no newspaper, no television.  By simply living naturally, I grew healthy.”

Psychic Readings by Kathleen

In the past few years my passion for women’s spirituality and the feminine journey to enlightenment has really gained traction on the Victorian woman, the accompanying growth spurt of spiritualism and what is now commonly referred to as “New Age” movement.  The secret mystical society called The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn is the group credited for the mass dissemination of the 20th Century Tarot.  This 19th century secret society marked the first time men and women worked together as equals in ceremonies whose purpose it was to test, purify, and exalt the individual’s spiritual nature to facilitate a unity with their Guardian Angel.  While the HIS-tory of the Hermetic Order is well documented making several of its male members famous, (Yeats for example),  their female counterparts remain obscure.  Shocking when you consider what they accomplished for the status of women.  Even within the sufferage movement, these women of magic were glanced over in HER-story books.  Spirituality and women remains one of the last arenas to be integrated into the advancement of women’s equality. The feminine journey to enlightenment is not the same path as the masculine but that doesn’t mean it isn’t as valid, challenging and sacred.

The Victorian women of magic did not accept the roles and boundaries defined for them by family circumstances and societal expectations.  They remade themselves after their own magical images and helped to remake their world.  They belonged to the timeless legacy of the priestesses, sibyls, and healers who throughout HER-story have been the adept midwives of the psyche.  These women inspired themselves and others to transcend the limitations of their contemporary cultural prejudices.  In the Golden Dawn mythos, everything can be used to further the Great Work which was the awareness and integration of the whole Self - from the sublime to the beast within.  The personal dark aspects, or so-called evil elements, were named the qlliphoth.  When mastered and harnessed in place, the qliphoth served one as, “a mighty steed, a powerful beast upon which to ride wherever one wanted to go” (represented by the Strength card in the Tarot).  Later of course this would be re-named in Jungian psychology as shadow work.  Jung believed that to shine the light of consciousness into our darkest shadowy natures was the single most vital process to spiritual awakening, wholeness and personal power.  Shadow integration also represented a vital moral function whereby consciousness of our own personal shadows would also remove a slice of darkness from the collective shadow.  Collective shadow being the modern equivalent for Devil and evil. These magician women became the receptors for the collective shadow of oppression towards women.  They were viewed and discussed as if they were sexual deviants bereft of wisdom and creativity!

Four central archetypal images accompanied the Victorian female magician:  the Angel, the Demon, the Old Maid, and the Fallen Woman. Women could only exist as spiritual extremes, such as the Virgin or the Whore, the Saint or the Sinner, Madonna or Lilith, Angel or Serpent; she must be either divine or demonic.  This is why as you study our spiritual and magician fore-Mothers you must be vigilant in recognizing the author’s biases.

Our modern spiritual inspiration has been profoundly shaped and guided by these extraordinary, Victorian female magicians. We often forget the ways in which our freedom of expression, choices, and independence were due to victories hard won through the sacrifices of our ancestors - especially the women!   The political and cultural realities of our own time thus took substance from the experience of outcast women of former times such as the women of the Golden Dawn.  Pamela Coleman Smith’s experience highlights the appalling creative negation of these uniquely gifted women.  She left a critical legacy to all magicians through her Tarot deck drawing detailed vignettes of the meanings of the Minor Arcana.  The deck painted by Pamela was given the title of the Rider-Waite (Rider being the publisher and Waite being a wealthy, high ranking Mason).  Pamela’s name wasn’t even mentioned until the late seventies as the illustrator/interpreter of what has become the most widely used Tarot deck in the world. She worked tirelessly for years painting this deck without compensation or even recognition, passing to spirit years later, a poverty stricken social outcast.

If your spiritual journey takes you down the path of the anthropology of the sacred, don’t forget to explore the foundations laid down by our Magical fore-Mothers.  It will keep your perspective balanced, fluid and heart-centred.

Quote:

“She used the word Yachad as a password and invoked a serpent to lead her to the Adytum of Isis.  When the snake appeared, she made it yawn.  Entering its mouth, she went down some steps until she came to the Book of Thoth.  She tipped up a stone to reveal revolving steps going farther down to a room with five alcoves.  Each recess contained a different object:  a rolled papyrus, a loaf of bread, liquids for drinking, garments to wear, and vessels of oil.  She returned a second time, bringing offerings to the five shrines and received in return a ruby and the red wine of life.  She could either let the wine “fall with generation” (ferment) or “be exalted into yellow flame of the intelligible life” (be distilled).  She also received a secret name-with ineffable power over the material body-written on the papyrus role.  The loaf of bread had an aureole around it “like soft white feathers gently buffeting the body-solidifying it.”  The garments included an Egyptian headdress called the nemyss with a Uraeus serpent and fifteen yards of kilted and twisted white robe.  Finally she was given instruction about how to enter the sanctuary when she next returned.  Florence might have used such visions in the Sphere Group, containing as they did specific ritual instructions and important symbols and techniques. But her group was under suspicion, and her “astral unions” with her guides called evil.”

Happy Mother’s Day Kathleen

Psychic Readings by Kathleen

Many clients share their own spiritual experiences with me which is one of the most privileged aspects of my work whether it involves communications with a loved one in spirit or having an inexplicable psychic insight from telepathy to clairvoyance (knowing what is going to happen in the future).  There are times, however, when spiritual “emergence” can lead to a spiritual “emergency” and there are several contributing factors that can align psychic insight with psychological disturbance.

The factor which most contributes to a spiritual emergency is belief/cognitive rigidity.  Spiritual problems are less likely to occur when a person can weather a life-changing situation gracefully, by both letting go of what has been lost and opening with a positive, trusting attitude toward the future.  Spiritual problems are more likely to occur when a person adheres to notions concerning how life should be and resists change.  People who are completely identified with narrow beliefs about the expression of spiritual life will tend to have more emotional distress than people who are welcoming about spiritual life manifesting in a myriad of ways.

When a person is receptive to change, inner experiences are interesting, even welcome or exciting.  A person who feels threatened is also more likely to feel shame thereby blocking any impetus to reach out for guidance and help.  On the helper side however, traditionally schooled psychologists and psychiatrists are not trained or supervised to assist clients through the mire of spiritual awakening to a healthful and enriched life.  In fact just the opposite is true.  The DSM-1V which is the bible of psychological pathology suggests that the symptoms of spiritual awakening are in fact an indicator of mental illness.

Profound spiritual awakening for example can result in a disorientation which makes a person less interested in work, in social contacts and self care due to the contrast between the magnificent magnitude of spiritual life and the minutiae mundaneness of day to day living.  Add to that the monumental task in communicating about one’s experience to others (in spiritual emergency this is the result of the noetic quality of the experience, not symptomatic of confused thinking). A spiritual experience can result too in dissociation (in spiritual emergency this dissociation is a transitory part of the process of integrating one’s experience).  All of these phenomena tend to subside after a spiritual crisis whereas in a chronic psychosis they do not.

Spiritual emergence is a personal realization of a reality beyond ego reality, and, ultimately, one’s unity with all things.  When we are given an appropriate conceptual framework and community support, a life enhancing spiritual awakening results.  When we have spiritual problems  and are perceived as out of touch with reality, we may be subjected to an inappropriate diagnosis and course of treatment which only serve to intensify the problems!  I often joke with my clients that my vocation became so much more interesting and rewarding once I was freed from the parameters set by traditional counseling methodology.  As a self-outed psychic advisor, who am I criticize?  I am joyously perceived to be well outside any bounds of normalcy which has opened the door in a very exciting way for me to hear/witness personal stories which are enlivening and have supported me tremendously on my road to spiritual understanding and wisdom.

Quote:

“An open heart, which creates the ability to be present with compassion, is the most important qualification for a Helper of someone in spiritual emergency.  More than anything else, it is the open-heartedness of the Helper that is essential to facilitating healing or balancing.  Furthermore, a person who has already had a spiritual experience can give reassurance to a person in spiritual crisis.  People who have had an opening to the Divine embody a knowing-ness of the Divine.  This deep personal knowledge and the ability to reassure clients about spiritual experience are important characteristics of a Helper.  Finally, it is critical that the Helper have a familiarity with the unconscious.  That the Helper has confronted their own demons and become conscious of the psychic and astral levels with themselves. With this familiarity comes a respect for the unconscious and , relatively speaking, less fear in dealing with it.  A Helper who has worked with the unconscious is able to provide a client in spiritual emergency with a workable strategy, a model, for relating to unconscious material as it arises.”

Psychic Readings by Kathleen

There is too much metaphysical nonsense in print, on the internet and taught in workshops that passes for spiritual wisdom.  New Age book shelves overflow with How-To books on being a spiritual healer, a medium, or psychic. Some claiming to have you reading auras in sixty seconds! It is the authentic psychic’s responsibility to help people tune into divine wisdom - to be a channel for this wisdom. And this cannot be grasped in a minute.

The invisible plane of energy vibrating through the cosmos, the world of magic, the spiritual realm, the all-pervading presence of the divine surrounds us.  Being psychic begins with finding magic in everyday life.  There have always been a few gifted people in the tribe who can move beyond the physical realm and into the spiritual.  With an effortless shift in perception, they see the divine presence in everything.  These people are often referred to as mystics.  Since the early development of our cerebral cortex mystics have played an important role in human evolution.

Mystics come into this world with a little something extra, but they don’t have the exclusive right to the world beyond the senses.  Each of us has part of the mystic in our genetic make-up.  Even if we can’t enter the transcendent dimension as fully or as easily as Joan of Arc, we can share some aspects of the mystical experience.  We all have the ability to see the divine in everything!  All we have to do is allow ourselves to trust our intuitive powers, expand our awareness and receptivity. When we do this, our souls are profoundly capable of absorbing spiritual truth when we feel it.

Nothing separates a person from the experience of the divine except a closed mind.  A mind that allows itself to only perceive the physical world and use only the intellect for discernment is what I mean by closed.  We are living in a world now that desperately needs to reclaim the mystical experience.  This need can be seen in the way people are so keenly and collectively looking for meaning, for a higher purpose.

The world around us is also suffering the consequences of our disconnect with mystical experience and the divine.  For centuries, our earth has been regarded as ours to conquer and control.  We have polluted the rivers, the oceans, and the air.  We have lost respect for the other life forms that share the earth with us.  All this has been made possible only by denying the earth’s divine nature and severing the mystical connection that humans have with the earth.

The mortal mind is stuck in the world of the physical senses while the mystical mind operates apart from your sensory perceptions.    It is responsible for those aha!! moments when you know you have been downloaded with wisdom, when you finally get it.

Psychics are able to tap into the mental energy of other people and through this connection we can know a person’s thoughts and emotions and what they have experienced in their lives.  This is really a connection to the person’s divine essence, which is a manifestation of the spiritual energy of the universe.  This is why psychics can know something of a person’s destiny.  What psychics and mystics share is this connection with the unseen world of the divine.

The first step is to trust your intuition and psychic impressions.  An unused muscle cannot develop or strengthen.  Practice acting immediately on your feelings and intuitions without belabouring over the logic.  Don’t second guess yourself or fall into the trap of discounting the message with a closed mind.  I know you’ll be excited and surprised by its accuracy and creativity.

Knowledge is an attribute of the mind, and wisdom is an attribute of the soul.  The divine will always bring you situations that allow you to practice what you have been reading or learning about - opportunities to transform knowledge into wisdom and nourish your soul will abound with rapid-fire repetition.  If you don’t pay attention to these opportunities, the universe will keep working with you until you do. You will finally ask the big question, “Why do these crazy things keep happening to me?!  Is there a message in this or am I just going nuts or what?”

Quote:

I said to my teacher, “Thanks for the concern, but I’m fine with my spirituality.”
“Well dear, what religion are you?” she replied. “Aren’t you a Christian?”
I replied very sternly, “I’m spiritual,” but they didn’t seem to understand my answer.  Then I said, “This is a public school, am I right?”
“Yes,” replied the principal, knowing that I had him in a corner.
“Then, I will read and believe what I want; I’m not hurting anyone and sure not trying to convert anyone.”  I shot a look at my teacher and waited to see what would happen next.  The bell rang, and suddenly it was over, just like that.  I shook the principal’s hand, nodded at my teacher, took my book back, and walked to my next class.
What the hell was that all about? I thought as I walked down the hall.
In my head I heard the reply: “Your true voice.” I stopped in the middle of the hallway, totally excited about acting like Joan Crawford or one of those other big-shouldered broads with attitude.  “Don’t fuck with me fellas!” I shouted in my head as I walked purposefully into my next class.”"

My DVD Set Introduction and Intermediate to the Tarot is Completed!

If you are interested in learning more about the Tarot and how this magical divination tool works you will find my DVD set comprehensive and unique.  My web master Sergey Pavlov filmed me for 14 hours teaching an Introductory and Intermediate Tarot workshop in Waterloo and Kitchener Ontario in the fall 2010. A talented young Tarot student, Lisa Norris agreed to edit it down to 5 hours of succinct, well organized material.  She’s done a good job of tightening, organizing and editing out anything that was redundant or potentially boring to viewers and keen Tarot students.

The DVD is designed to run full screen on all DVD and Blue Ray video players and most computers.

Happy Spring!

seagrams-smile.jpg

A few weeks ago a savvy client asked me a question that is undoubtedly in the mind of many who seek a consult with a psychic, “How can I tell if the psychic is telling me what I want to hear or is telling me the truth?”  This is truly the apex of existential readership!

The path to garnering an honest prediction rests primarily on how cheerfully accepting you are of any outcome revealed. If you can bring yourself to a mindful place of no expectation, where there is no investment on your part to whatever outcome is related, then you can be confident your reader will not be unduly affected by your overt and weighty outcome expectations. Some clients are clear and rather aggressively invested in a particular outcome transmitting an ominous message to the reader that an undesirable prediction will be received with less than cordial acceptance. I humbly suggest than many of you would be rather appalled at how un-cordial some can be at hearing something undesirable.  Readers must be forgiven for being circumspect in having to relate unpleasant outcomes.  In fact this represents the most highly cited reason that students of the esoteric shy away from the job.

A recent statistic has revealed that there are thousands (perhaps millions) of women around the world today who continue to be prosecuted and murdered for the practice of “witchcraft”.  Throughout the world where poverty, lack of food supply and violence reigns, women, young and old are suffering on a wave of blame the messenger.

Providing information to clients which is all light, goodness, joy and abundance however is also problematic.  Life is never all those things! Sometimes the universe just says NO you are not going to have what you think you want and the sooner you get along with accepting that NO the sooner you can move forward in a direction which promises YES.

We now have experimental confirmation that much of what we perceive, react to, assess, and decide remains entirely outside our conscious awareness, whether we’re driving a car or forming preferences or deciding what works to our advantage.  This has caused a humbling reappraisal of consciousness.  The unconscious, in the narrow meaning of which the word has been etched in our culture, is only a part of the vast amount of processes and contents that remain nonconscious. Amazing how little we ever know.  But maybe, if we give our real due to those processes and contents that remain nonconscious we’ll find it equally amazing how much it turns out we do know unconsciously.  One key to understanding our mental capacities is to shift our focus from consciousness to what lies beneath.

Many clients tell me they knew all along what I am saying.  If I had however succumbed to telling clients only what they wanted to hear, as opposed to confirming what they already knew, good or bad, they would not have had the opportunity to act on true knowledge nor would they make progress in learning to trust their own perceptions and inexplicable ways of knowing.  That’s too high a price for my soul to pay at the alter of cordiality.

Ultimately all good readings should raise your consciousness.  You know just to what extent you have been counting on a particular outcome; how resistant you are to a counter prediction and how much further along the road you must go to finding peace and detachment.  You also will glean undeniable evidence that we humans do have a way of knowing which cannot be explained by scientific query.  This opens the way to altering a world view which at present is unbalanced in its adherence to the physical, the material and individual control.  The question of how to determine if a reader is telling you only what you want to hear is not as pertinent as the degree to which you are invested in a certain outcome.  You may be making all your decisions now based upon that outcome and you can be sure that this will represent the foundation of your future happiness.

Quote:

All the professional intuitives with whom I’ve spoken assert that their seemingly extraordinary knowing is quintessentially characterized by its random, nonrepeatable quality and its absolute dependence on the highly idiosyncratic, deeply personal capacities and dispositions of the knower - just as William James predicted.  When I asked Helen Palmer how reliable her readings were, she talked about the quirky nature of the state of mind she assumes to access information: “It’s totally receptive and isn’t geared to replicate the controlled reliability that we expect from the analytic part of our minds.  Intuition is about recognizing internal impressions in an altered state of consciousness that simply doesn’t work in the same way as linear thinking.”
No wonder this kind of knowing slips out of scientific conversation.  No wonder the experiments show up with quirks.”

Psychic Readings by Kathleen

Clients and students often ask me how I do what I do and when in my life exactly did I realize that I could do “it”.  The “it” being of course my odd gift for knowing things that I’ve not heard or seen with my physical senses.  I struggle to find the right words and narrative to describe my experience because although most people would claim to not have any psychic ability, I honestly don’t believe that. I think everyone can do what I do, the problem is that their psychic insights are simply blocked and/or are kept out of awareness by disbelief, fear and distraction.

Extra sensory perception (ESP for short) which cannot be grasped by intellect or analysis involve being at one with the object of your attention.  We’ve all had, for example, the pleasure of a walk when the sense of separation between ourselves and the environment disappears.  Suddenly we’re suffused with the empty-headed clarity of our connection to nature that is so definite, so indelibly known to our being, that the intellectual tendency of analysis simply reclines.  The same experience commonly happens at the movies.  When the story heats up, we forget that we’re sitting in a theatre watching the screen we forget time, place, an dour own thoughts while we join with the action on screen.  Non-duality is also reflected in the belief that a higher consciousness is expressed when a storyteller embodies her words, when a singer unites with her song, when a cook and the food are of one mind, and when individuals truly join with the tribe.  Research in psychic ability has shown a link between imagination, creativity, and intuitive knowing.  This is why people ask, “How do I know the information I’m receiving is real or simply a emergence from my own imagination?”

A Tarot reading given today may use essentially the same deck of cards that made its appearance centuries ago, yet the quality of guidance still depends on the operator’s capacity.  Ordinary consciousness produces a mechanical rendition of memorized meanings for a spread.  But when that same spread is contemplated from a unified mind, the reader’s inner imagery can yield exponentially higher, more evolved degrees of insight.

Perhaps non-ordinary wisdom is best expressed through Shamanism, the oldest-known body of spiritual practices.  Practices such as solitude and meditation enhance access to the inner world and its images, visions, dreams and spirits.  The range of these inner experiences is vast, but commonalities emerge across cultures.  For the successful candidate these practices climax in unusual experiences which indicate that a degree of Shamanic mastery has been attained.  True gifts of the spirit will not be granted without sacrifice, suffering and courage.

Studying the Tarot as a divination tool is not ultimately about learning the meanings of the cards or where to place them in a prescribed pattern, it is learning to trust the information that comes through as the cards aid in shifting your awareness inwardly.  It is taking that leap of trust demanded to relate that insight to another individual whose life could be irreversibly altered in the process.  Being a Shaman in any culture is not an easy path; it is after all the path less traveled.  Out of almost 500 students that I’ve taught over the years, less than a handful are practicing diviners.  It isn’t because they don’t know the intellectual material, or that they lack the “gift of prophecy”, it is because at the gate of traversing to Shaman, they withdrew.  When they glimpsed the inner abyss that must be leaped, as the Fool in the Tarot so aptly depicts, they opted to return to the path most familiar.  I know everyone has the ability to do what I do, I know too however that few are ready to dance off a psychic cliff, wrestle with inner demons, and live absolutely in the now knowing that control is truly an illusion.  Ironically oracles often accused of being illusionists are in truth among the few who do see, accept and narrate reality.

Quote:

The fathoming of the human heart and the spiritual qualities it contains is the work of all life, art, spirituality.  It is possible to know the heart without the veils of our fears, preoccupations, desires, and strategies.  The purification of the heart is a comprehensive education that has physical, intellectual, psychological, and moral dimensions.
In its purified state, the human heart is the hologram of the seen and unseen worlds; it is the part that reflects the whole.  The heart is the point at which the individual human being is closest to the Divine.  Sufi tradition expresses it this way: The heart is the throne of the All-Merciful Spirit: when the heart is pure, it is guided directly by the Divine Intelligence

Happy First Moon in the New Year!

100_1385.jpg

January 4, 2011

Psychic Readings by Kathleen

Intuitively, often unconscously and ritualistically, January initiates us to the New Year by driving our focus down to our first chakra.  Setting intentions and dreams for a healthier body, greater abundance and security, and an intimate love connection are the domain of our first chakra which is concentrated between the base of our spine and our pubic bone.

The first, base line energy centre, however, encompasses the entire pelvic area of the body, including the genitals and reproductive organs.  Sexuality in the first chakra is the primary force in our lives and an upset over mating has a powerful effect on our spiritual lives.  In fact, healers spend an extraordinary amount of time counseling people about their love lives and how it affects their health and spiritual growth (or at least they should…if they don’t, you can be sure they have unresolved first chakra issues of their own and you would be wise to switch healers until they do get it sorted!).

Furthermore, anything that we investigate about the first chakra has to include how each individual’s first chakra encounters other first chakras in the world, whether that encounter is intended or not.  The first chakra, like all the other chakras in your system, has its own viewpoint, its own personality.  It is athletic; it cares about contact.  It cares about survival and sensuality, pleasure and power.  It cares about proving whether or not we are alive, and it does not care how it goes about doing this.  Being and staying alive is its prime objective.

The element of this chakra is fire and no surprise its colour is red.  Astrologically it is aligned with the Sun which is why it sings a louder melody in January as the Sun is returning to fullness after the darkness of the Winter Solstice. When you experience a mystical opening of the first chakra, you have a feeling of heat that starts at the base of your spine and burns its way to the top of your head.

The red quality; the quality of our blood, our sexuality, our drive, our financial substance or prosperity all reside in the first chakra.  The ruby, fire opal, and fire topaz are stones associated with the first chakra.  The bumblebee and dragon are the creatures in the east associated with this chakra and in the west it is the horse, snake, worm, spider and lizard.  Consider your feelings towards any of the above symbols and you have an instant snap shot of your own unconscious relationship to your first chakra!

Often what we have been raised to believe is unacceptable develops into our own personal difficulties with the first chakra, such as the suppression of power, problems with sex and intimacy, repression of anger, and lack of vitality.  Our culture specifically does not like women to manifest an open first chakra.  We are told to stand, sit, move and walk in such a way as to restrict the natural rocking movements of the pelvis.  Often this suppressed power backs up so forcefully that a person begins to exhibit compulsive or obsessive behaviour at an early age.  Eating disorders, self-mutilation and addictions are a few examples of first chakra pathology.

In your dreams for the coming year, as you focus on first chakra energies, don’t do it from a position of repression (clues to this would be including shoulds, musts, have tos in your language of intention).  Rather set your intentions with an awareness and appreciation of being joyfully and fully alive! Swinging hips in tune to rousing music, hoola hooping with abandonment, belly dancing to bold drumming and laughing wildly with abandonment.  Set that as your plan for 2011.  Anticipate with excitement in your soul, a self-affirming, loving and pleasurable year ahead.

Quote:

“All of Hindu and classical Zen literature is full of the principle of reclaiming power - taking whatever energy we are given and altering it to its opposite component.  For example, pleasure and rage are two coexisting potentials in the first chakra.  By allowing ourselves to experience the ecstasy of “hedonistic” pleasure, we actually create the synaptical capacity for converting rage. Then when rage rises up within us, we can move that energy, that rage, into the pleasure centre by tilting the pelvis slightly forward and moving the energy up.  It is then used to regenerate our bodies instead of causing destruction.  One of the classic Tibetan drawings of the chakras has a yin and yang in each chakra; this drawing is a precise representation of the refocusing of power and allowing it to turn back into its opposite, should one choose not to use it in its original form.

In this way, there is no suppression of power.  It is a much healthier process.

It often seems that there is no appropriate place for expressing many kinds of feelings.  To avoid experiencing those feelings in the second chakra, many of us tend to hold back the power of the first.  The result of this suppression is a first chakra that runs counterclockwise.  By running this chakra backward, we do not lose those unexpressed feelings but keep them suppressed.  As a result, we do not have access to their power.  In other words, instead of sending energy up the system, it is dissipated into the ground.  We are losing a vast amount of energy and power.  If we can turn the chakra around, then energy will again begin to flow appropriately, giving us access to our power once more.”

Happy Holiday Season!  Kathleen

Psychic Readings by Kathleen

December is an evocative month.  It is the Yuletide when the strife that magnetizes the ether between the material and spiritual ramps into overdrive.  Love and fear, selflessness and ego, anticipation and stress, pleasure and work pull us collectively in opposite directions.  Relationships that are forged in obligation, responsibility and expectation threaten to dominate relations with those that foster freedom and joy.  More couples split apart in December than at any other time of the year.  The holiday tensions energize us to evaluate our lives and make decisions that will enliven our prospects for the coming New Year.  It’s an emotional roller coaster ride!  If you are alone at this time of year, your loneliness will be felt the most keenly and if you have a lot of people in your life, you’ll notice what those relationships mean and which ones are overdue to be released or treasured.

All of this electric emotional energy is fertile ground for astounding spiritual epiphanies.  Our dream time is more active and synchronistic events abound with breathtaking frequency.  Reconnecting with an old sweetheart the same day you break up with your lover makes you wonder if Lady Fortuna has something special in the works for you! Having your morning coffee, your mind wanders to an old friend you haven’t spoken to in years and wouldn’t you know?! there is an email from her waiting for you in your email inbox.  The veil that hangs between the unseen and seen worlds gets more transparent and you feel as though anything is possible.  More lottery tickets are sold in December than at any other time of year too.

Workaholics hate December!  Little gets accomplished, it’s harder to keep team members and staff on point. The work addiction normally lauded stands out like an ice cube in the desert.  As consumption and guilt mount so does our willingness to accept, tolerate and forgive.

Make a note in your calendar to pay attention to the magic that will unfold for you on December 21.  It’s the day of Winter Solstice - the shortest day of the year for us in the northern hemisphere - in combination with the Full Moon in Gemini!  A full moon on the night of Winter Solstice is a rare treat indeed.  It would have been enthusiastically celebrated by the ancient peoples, being granted the brilliance of the moon on the longest night! Gemini the sign of the Twins/Lovers suggests it will be in the realm of relationships that matters which have been brewing will be resolved.

I wish all of you a joyful, loving and spiritual December!  May all your dreams come true and spirit gift you with memories you’ll treasure for eternity.

“All the professional intuitives with whom I’ve spoken assert that their seemingly extraordinary knowing is quintessentially characterized by its random, non-repeatable quality and its absolute dependence on the highly idiosyncratic, deeply personal capacities and dispositions of the knower - just as William James predicted.  When I asked Helen how reliable her readings were, she talked about the quirky nature of the state of mind she assumes to access information: “It’s totally receptive and isn’t geared to replicate the controlled reliability that we expect from the analytic part of our minds.  Intuition is about recognizing internal impressions in an altered state of consciousness that simply doesn’t work in the same way as linear thinking.”

No wonder this kind of knowing slips out of scientific conversation.  No wonder the experiments show up with quirks.”
